Enterprise Investment Programme

The Department of Trade and Industry launched the Enterprise Investment Programme (EIP) on 3 July 2008 (effective 21 July 2008). The incentive programme is set to run for six years until July 2014 and supports both Manufacturing (including Agro-Processing) and Tourism activities.

In August 2009 the DTI published certain revised guidelines covering both Manufacturing and Tourism activities. Certain of the rule changes were applied with immediate effect while the other changes were implemented on 1 October 2009.

The aim of the programme is to "provide investment support to both local and foreign owned entities by offering a Tax Free investment grant of up to 30% of the value of qualifying investment costs required for establishing the new / expanding facility."

The incentive programme caters for New and Expanding entities that are involved in Manufacturing or Tourism activities. Foreign owned entities that relocate new plant and machinery to SA will also be eligible to apply for a "once off" Foreign Investment Grant (FIG) that covers the cost of relocating the assets from overseas to the production facility.
